Google Wave : The future of Web 2.0



Seems like google also is understanding the importance of social networking in the future web and Google Wave is a new example of it .


What is google wave ?


    * Google Wave is an online communication and collaboration tool that makes real-time interactions more seamless

    * It helps  in online real-time collaborative editing and is written in Java using OpenJDK .

    * Google Wave is designed to merge key features of media like e-mail, instant messaging, wikis, and social networking .

    * A wave is shared.Participants can reply any time and anywhere within a wave, and they can edit content and add more participants as a wave develops.

    * Playback lets anyone rewind the wave to see who said what and when.

    * A wave is live. With live transmission as you type, participants on a wave can have faster conversations, see edits and interact with extensions in real-time.

    * It's also possible to rewind waves with the playback functionality, to see what happened, and when.

    * Chatting, contacts, and editing can be integrated in all of your favorite applications.

    * If you have google account you can use it to login to google wave . Google wave screen is divided into three sections .

    * The leftmost section is the navigational menu .The middle section remembers all your actions in chronological order .

    * The rightmost section is the place where you create a wave .


There are six types of waves you can create


    * Blank wave

    * Discussion

    * Task tracking

    * Meeting

    * Document

    * Brainstorm


    * Once you create a new wave you can see your avatar at the top of your wave section . Use the add button to the right of your avatar to add new people you want to share your wave with .

    * You can add colored text with colored background .

    * Clicking at the rightmost part of the toolbar takes you to "More Actions "

More Actions helps you add has more options :                                                                        

    * Link
    * Add Attachments
    * Google Search Results
    * Add Gadgets


    * To add videos go to link and add the URL . Click on the bulb next to your URL to embed the video .

    * You can reply anywhere in google wave .

    * Attachments help you to share you files with your peers .

    * Add attachment along the top, and select the file you'd like to share

    * You can reply anywhere in google wave .

    * Double-click the section where you'd like your comment to appear, and click Reply in the window that appears.

    * You can always play back the wave if you need to see what's changed since the beginning.

    * In your leftmost navigational menu bar you can go to extensions and add a new gadget to your wave .
